Hey, I’m Karl Beatty — an acoustic rock musician with a grunge edge, and a deep love for songs that make you feel something. I’ve been performing solo acoustic shows since 2005, starting back in my college days, but really, music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I sang in choir all through school and was always that kid who couldn’t stop singing or whistling along to whatever was playing.
I was inspired early on by family friends who played guitar and sang at get-togethers, and by my dad and grandfather, who were always whistling tunes around the house. That mix of passion and influence eventually shaped my own sound — acoustic rock with a grungy soul. I pull from bands like Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead, and Incubus, putting my own spin on the songs I love.
My favorite thing to do on stage is bring back the songs people forgot they loved. My setlists are full of B-side gems and throwbacks that always seem to hit home, no matter the crowd. I don’t talk much between songs — I like to let the music speak — but I pour everything into each performance. I close my eyes, dig in deep, and hope it resonates.
Over the years, I’ve opened for some killer acts like Brandon Gibbs, Hairball, and That Arena Rock Show at venues like Rascals in Moline and The Rust Belt in East Moline. Every gig, big or small, has helped me grow and connect with people through music.
These days, I’m focused on private parties and special events. I’ve stepped back from full-time bar gigs to take care of some family stuff, but I’m still writing, still performing, and finally working on turning years of song ideas into finished originals.
